Air Valve Installation Instructions
Tools Needed
9/16” Open End Wrench
¾ “ Socket
Hand Ratchet
To Install
- Attach the CTI Line with the swivel nut to the air valve.
- Remove the ½” X 20 Jam Nut & Washers from the Valve
- Put the air valve in the valve hole and hold in place. You can add a small amount of Blue Loctite if you prefer, but it’s not necessary as long as you tighten the nut per instructions.
- The Stainless Washer/s are installed inside the wheel under the Jam nut. There are 3 washers for you to allow for the thickness of the valve hole so that you will have the correct tightness of the valve and Jam nut. For a GT wheel, you will use at least 1 jam nut and if you want, use the second nut to “Jam” to the other nut in place.
- Hand tighten the ½” X 20 Jam Nut onto the air valve.
- Put the 9/16” open- end wrench on the swivel nut.
- Tighten the Jam nut with the Hand Ratchet and ¾” socket while holding the swivel nut in place with open- end wrench. DO NOT use an air gun
- Tighten the Jam Nut until the O-ring on the air valve has been squeezed down to about ½ or more of its original width and the nut has been tigtened to the point that it feels like the nut has made another thread on the valve. That is an indication of how tight you must tighten the nut This generally requires that the nut be tightened down until it stops and then a bit more!!!
- Once the Jam Nut is tight, now is the time to add the other Jam Nut if you want, then reverse the direction of the ratchet and hold that ratchet and Jam Nut in place. Do Not Untighten the nut.
- While holding the ½” X 20 Jam Nut in place, use the 9/16” open-end wrench and the tubular steel line to simultaneously, un-tighten the swivel nut from the air valve.
- When re-installing the CTI Line, hand tighten the swivel nut onto the air valve, and then tighten that nut with a maximum of about 1/32 to 1/16 of a turn.
- DO NOT over-tighten the swivel nut, it is not necessary as it is very likely that a hand tight swivel nut will hold air pressure, but would not necessarily stay tight, so it must be slightly tightened as suggested above. We recommend that you add a very tiny amount of Anti-Seize on the “Threads Only” of the 37 degree flare part of the air valve, but again, not absolutely necessary.
